Shawn Tomer , 50, of Cuyahoga Falls Ohio, passed away suddenly on September 9, 2024, due to complications from epilepsy.
Shawn was born in Akron, Ohio on April 8, 1974 and graduated Ellet High School class of 1992.
Shawn loved God and his country and was very passionate about what he believed. He spent much of his time researching to find and sort out the truth and was adamant about sharing it with others, (whether they liked it or not!)
He was a hard worker and played hard, and as a child was crazy about BMX riding and jumps. As an adult, he customized his own mountain bike, and did many notable rides including the Continental Divide Trail and also biked from Ohio to Maine. During these trips he displayed his gift for storytelling, with a blog about his travels and misadventures. After he traded his self powered bike in for a beloved Harley, he rode across the country, from Ohio to California, as well as many other rides. After a few years, due to his struggles with epilepsy (and some encouragement from mom and Tiffany) Shawn sold his Harley and soon purchased two high powered scooters. He rode all over the Akron, area and Cuyahoga Valley National Park, mostly at night when he avoided being caught racing at high speeds around town.
Shawn’s adventurous spirit was one of his defining features. On parting, he would often jokingly quip, “drive fast, take chances”!
Shawn was very compassionate, and a loving son, fiance, brother, and friend, and protected and cared deeply about those he loved.
The last few years of his life were especially significant after he met his soulmate, Tiffany, while in nursing school in 2018. They got their Licensed Practical Nursing degree together, and he loved taking care of his patients.
While working night shift, he would sneak away from the nursing station and sit with a resident of the care center he worked at, and talk with them for extended periods, until he had to make his next rounds.
After a family reunion at his mom’s home in Idaho, early September 2023, he and Tiffany drove to Glacier National Park where he proposed and put a ring on her finger. He was the happiest when he was with his sweetheart, Tiffany.
Shawn is survived by his loving fiancé Tiffany Harper Diebold; mother, Fran and Stepfather, Jeff Vivian; step mother Sandy Tomer; siblings Emily Vivian, Justin Vivian, Glenn (Vanessa) Moretz Jr. and Morgan Tomer; Tiffany’s dad Craig Harper (Patti); Tiffany’s children Ashley (Joe) Marez and Brandon Diebold; Tiffany’s grandchildren Ava, Mila, Bennett and Mason; Tiffany’s sister Heidi Harper and her sons Noah and Jermiah Harper; and many other aunts uncles, cousins and friends.
Shawn is preceded in death by his father Rob, sister Jennifer Tomer, and Tiffany’s mother Marilyn Harper. His family would also like to think he has been reunited with his favorite canine companion, Warrior.
Friends and family are encouraged and welcome to help celebrate Shawn’s life, and share stories and memories of him.
