Sonya Parry

Sonya Parry, 79 passed away December 23, 2014.
Sonya was born on June 29, 1935 in Akron to Frank B. and Elizabeth K. Thomas. She attended King School, Old Trail School and Smith College, where she majored in history.
Sonya lived in Akron for most of her life, and she was an active volunteer for and supporter of many community organizations. She was a member and former president both of the Akron General Medical Center's Women's Committee and Witan. She was also a member and elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church and later a member of Bath United Church of Christ. She was a member of Blossom Music Women's Committee, the University of Akron Women's Committee and the Akron Woman's City Club.
Sonya was a woman of grace, style and charm. She loved music and books, and she enjoyed conversing with and learning about other people. She was devoted to her family. With her husband James, she traveled the world, enjoying cruises, driving trips in Europe, and other memorable adventures while visiting six continents. In recent years, she and Jim enjoyed winters in LaQuinta, California, where they were members of Palm Desert Community Presbyterian Church and were active in support of the Coachella Valley rescue Mission.
In addition to James, her husband of forty-one years, Sonya is survived by her son, John (Andrea Hibbard); her sister, Mary (Eugene) Fazzini; and step-children, Deborah Warren and Michael; and by grandchildren, Celia and Oliver, Briggs, Whit, Sinclair and True. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John D. Peace III.
The family thanks the staff of Sumner at Concordia for their excellent and loving care.
A celebration of Sonya's life will be held Saturday, December 27th at 11:00 a.m.at Bath United Church of Christ, 3980 W. Bath Rd., Akron, OH 44333 with Rev. Mark Frey officiating. A lunch at Portage Country Club will follow the service. Memorials may be made to Bath United Church of Christ or Akron General Foundation, 1 Akron General Avenue, Akron, OH 44307.
