Sophie M. Leuchtag, 94, died January 27, 2009.
Born in Schenectady, New York, she graduated from Cleveland Central at the age of 14 and from Flora Stone Mather at Western Reserve University in 1932 at 18.
From 1970 on, she was an active community volunteer, primarily at Akron General Medical Center, serving on the Women's Board since 1987 and establishing a scholarship in OBGYN in honor of her brother, Leon F. Moldavsky, M.D.
Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Emery and Holly Leuchtag; grandson, Alex; granddaughter, Claire; nephews, Donald and Steven Leuchtag; and nieces, Iris Farroni and Emily Unkrich.
Services will be held 11 a.m. FRIDAY, January 30 at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Cantor Jason Rosenman officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Leon F. Moldavsky, M.D. Visiting Professorship, c/o Akron General Development Foundation, 400 Wabash Ave., Akron 44304 or to the Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Akron 44333.
