Stanley Alden Weiland, a lifelong resident of Bath Township, Ohio at the age of 90 died peacefully in his sleep during the early hours of Thursday, February 1st, 2018.
Born in Bath on January 6th, 1928 to Calvin O and Julia C (nee Sourek) Weiland, Stan lived very briefly on Merriman Road in Akron before moving back to Sourek Road which was named after his mother's family farm that historically encompassed the area.
He graduated from Bath High School, served in the US Army stationed in post-WWII Germany during the Korean War, and came home to design and test aircraft landing gears and aerospace equipment eventually managing that department for the Cleveland Pneumatic Tool Company, a career from which he retired after 35 years.
Through the years he was active in the Bath Grange, Bath Historical Society, a Deacon at Ghent Christian Church, and many will remember him driving his prized restored tractors in numerous local parades.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard and sister Dorothy (Miller) wife, Marie Marlene (nee Dark) and is survived by children, Greg (Becky), Gary, Lori (Michael) Schneider, Michelle (Matt) Pedro; 6 grandchildren; and long-time partner in life, Esther Long.
For the past year after a debilitating fall, he had been living in the Brookdale Assisted Living facility in nearby Montrose, and many thanks go out from the family to the Brookdale Assisted Living and Brookdale Hospice staffs for the care he received and their kindness.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday, February 6 with a Memorial Service following at 8 PM at the Billow Fairlawn Chapel, 85 N Miller Road.
A separate interment service for the immediate family will be held on Saturday, February 10th at Rose Hill Burial Park. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
