Stephanie Jeanne Weddle (Smith), born October 1, 1946 in Rockaway, NY to Stephen and Eileen Smith. She passed away peacefully at home, November 1, 2021 at the age of 75 after a 17-month battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Stephanie spent her younger years in Wantagh, NY on Long Island. She graduated from Wantagh High School in 1964. Following high school, she attended SUNY in Potsdam graduating in 1968. She majored in elementary education with a minor in music theater. She later went on to Xavier University, where she completed a Master’s in Education, Theater Art and Set Design.
In 1973 she moved to the Washington D.C. area where she raised her 3 girls and worked as a Biology and Earth Science teacher for 33 years. Following her retirement, she moved to Akron, Ohio. Throughout her life she enjoyed dancing, travel, crafts, gardening, and a small business in home renovations. She was fortunate to meet her future husband Dave Weida in October of 2009. The two were married June 29, 2013. They have enjoyed the last 8 years traveling, especially to northern Michigan, gardening, singing and attending many dance events across the county. They were also active members at Faith Lutheran Church where they were in the choir. She leaves behind her loving husband Dave Weida, sister Suzanne Kuoppala (Robert), three children; Kim Thomson (Dan), Kristin Sullivan (Ben) and Amanda O’Donovan (Jeremiah), and 15 grandchildren.
Celebration of Life will take place in person at Faith Lutheran Church, 2726 W. Market St., Fairlawn, OH 44333, on November 20, 2021 (masks required) . The family will welcome guests from 10 – 11 am with service to follow at 11:00 AM.
