Stephen J. Sophis passed away on July 4, 2024, after a long illness. Steve was born on April 24, 1964, in Akron and was a graduate of Copley High School.
A lifelong member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Akron, Steve was an active volunteer in many church activities including the Annual Greek Festival and church board. Steve was also a loyal fundraiser for the Jimmy V Foundation for cancer, and a member of AHEPA Hellenic men’s organization.
Most recently, Steve was employed by Meijer. His passion, though, was entertainment. Steve’s claim to fame was his career as “Muddy” the mascot for the Toledo Mud Hens baseball team. Later, Steve ran a DJ service where he was known at “DJ Baklava” and envied by all for his dance moves.
Steve will be missed by many friends and co-workers. He is survived by his beloved aunt, Helen Sophis, and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Stacy Sophis.
Funeral service will take place FRIDAY, July 12, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S. Union St. Akron, OH 44304. Friends may call from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment immediately following at Mount Peace Cemetery, Akron.
