Steven M. Ames
January 11, 1916-April 14, 2014
Steven M. Ames, better known as Mal to his family and friends, was born in Akron, Ohio to Steven P. Ames and Ruth (Mills) Ames and was a life time resident. He was a member of the first family to settle in the Akron area. He graduated from North High School and then he received a degree in bachelor of science in business administration from Buchtel College (now U. of Akron) where he was the male representative of his class, and a member of and secretary of Omicron Delta Kappa. He was a first lieutenant of company F in ROTC. He obtained a Masters in Business from Harvard and later in his mid 50's a Masters in History from University of Akron. An avid reader, he believed education was everything. He was also the youngest secretary of the Real Estate Association at 27.
Even though he was drafted 3 times by the Army, the Navy intervened to keep him at Goodyear Aerospace because he was in charge of the Corsair plane production for the Navy. He became the president of the Akron Billiard and Bowling Supply Co. retiring when he was 85. He was a lifetime member of the Holy Lutheran Trinity Church, past president of West Akron Kiwanis, but most of all he was a dedicated husband, amazing and patient father and benevolent to all.
