Steven Eugene Perkins
Steven Eugene Perkins, age 67, passed away on December 12, 2015, in Winchester, Virginia. Born in La Porte, Indiana, on December 28, 1947, he was a longtime Copley, Ohio, resident.
Steve loved reading and learning, and encouraged many to reach for high educational goals. He attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where he received his bachelor's degree in Social Science and a master's degree in Counseling. He then earned Ph.D.s from Brigham Young University in Marriage and Family Therapy and Psychology. He taught at the University of Akron and Walsh University and founded the Akron Family Institute. He also served on several professional and community boards. He has blessed the lives of many through his profession.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Steve served in many capacities, most recently as a patriarch. He lived his life as a disciple of Christ, and served with love, gentleness, kindness, and wisdom. He had the ability to make everyone feel important.
Steve found great joy in his family and in watching them play, learn, and grow. He loved to recount anecdotes of the funny and wise things his children and grandchildren would say and do.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Edwin and Garnet Dillon Perkins, and is survived by his wife of 45 years, Bonnie Gaskell; children Amy (Greg) Lassen, Kristie (Nate) Lester, Aaron, Matthew (Laura), and Andrew (Vanessa); 18 grandchildren; and brothers, Jan and David.
