Sunil Baran Sarkar died peacefully at Summa City Hospital on May 12, 2010 after complications from a heart attack, the date marked his 74th birthday.

His family rejoices that he has joined his creator and has found everlasting peace. He's remembered as a wonderful family man, father and grandfather dadu and as a man dedicated to lifelong learning.

Born in Dhaka, India on May 12, 1936, Sunil was raised with a focus on following his dreams. He graduated from Jadavpore University in 1961 with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. In 1965, he and wife, Geeta, immigrated to Toronto, Canada then moved to their permanent home in Akron, Ohio just two years later. Soon after, Sunil began taking night classes and earned a master's degree in Polymer Science from the University of Akron while working during the day. He retired from Firestone Polymers in 2008 after serving for 39 years and earning four patents for his work as a Senior Research Engineer. His co-workers described him as a man that "never faced a problem that he could not solve."

Sunil loved his family and community. He was passionate about his coin and stamp-collecting hobbies as well as traveling. He took pride in visiting countless countries spanning five continents. Sunil was a member of the Rubber City Stamp Club and an active member of the Bengali Cultural Society.

Friends and families describe him as a generous, kind, selfless, and blessed man who touched the lives of all he met.

He is survived by his wife, Geeta; sister, Usha Sarkar of Kolkata, India; daughters, Mona Sumana Sarkar and Monica Matheny; son-in-law, Bryan Matheny; six grandchildren, Tyler, Nicholas and Alexis Smith and Madeline, Genevieve and Charlotte Matheny.

A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, May 29th at the Billow FAIRLWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd.
