Mrs. Sunita Arora nee Harinder Chawla, 70, passed away on July 22, 2011 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Mrs. Arora was born October 10, 1940 in Lahore, in what was at that time British India.
She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Delhi and moved to Kent with her family in 1965. She earned a master's degree in education from Kent State University and served as a teacher in the Field school system for 35 years before retiring. She reveled in the joy of inspiring youngsters to fall in love with learning. Although she was a gifted and passionate teacher, Mrs. Arora will be best remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandma and friend.
She was preceded in death by her father, Gian Chand Chawla and mother, Sushila; husband, Sardari Lal Arora; and sisters, Prem Chawla and Sudesh Seth. She is survived by her daughters, Dr. Nita Arora McCargar and Dr. Nalini Arora Corpora; five grandchildren, Ryan, Nina, Arora, Cerina and Nicholas; one brother, Vidya Prakash Chawla; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and of course, many friends and former students. Mrs. Arora was a reverend, active member and devout saint of the Sant Nirankari Mission of the Universal Brotherhood.
Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on SUNDAY, JULY, 24 at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Road. The prayer and cremation service will be held immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mrs. Arora's name to the Sant Nirankari Mission, Michigan Branch, 35212 Melton Road, Westland, MI 48185.
