Susan Jean Norval died on May 19, 2015 in her beloved Hilton Head, South Carolina, surrounded by family, and securely rests in the love of Christ instead of the grip of cancer.
Born at Fort Eutstis, Virginia and forever proud of her southern roots, Susan lived her 59 years in Akron, Cleveland and Macedonia, Ohio. She leaves to grieve her loss but to take joy in her life her parents, Dr. John and Mary Norval of Akron; brother, Greg (Karen) Norval of Hilliard, Ohio; and sister, Nancy (Doug) Hannum of Worthington, Ohio. Missing her terribly are her treasured nieces and nephews who adored their Charming Aunt Susan, Kurt, Kalleigh and Kasey Norval and Ford and Kenzi Hannum. She also leaves a close extended family and dearest of friends, many of whom have served as caregivers during the long fight against breast cancer. Susan was a woman of tremendous faith and it was evident in all areas of her life.
Susan graduated from the University of Akron with a BS in Nursing, and served as an RN at Rainbow Children's hospital then later at the Endoscopy Center of Bainbridge. She was also a beautiful and creative artist, someone with the gift of hospitality, and she served in many ministries over the years, most recently with Faithful Friends at Parkside Church, Solon, OH, where she was a member.
The family wishes to thank the many remarkable medical people who cared so beautifully for Susan, most notably the Seidman Cancer Center in Westlake, Ohio, especially Dr. Paula Silverman and the many nurses, technicians and staff, as well as the staff at the Hilton Head Regional Medical Center where hospice guided Susan and the family with such joy. Special thanks also to her beautiful and generous employers and co-workers who so graciously navigated things to free Susan to work as long as possible and then to be able to look ahead to a summer of healing.
"I lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord."
