Syed M. Nehal, P.E.
Syed M. Nehal, P.E., died August 3 at his home in Bath following an 8-month struggle with Glioblastoma Brain cancer. He was 74.
Syed was born in Gumla, in the state of Bihar in India Dec. 8, 1933. He was the seventh of ten children. Having received degrees in Geology and English at Aligarh University in India, he came to the United States in 1956 and continued studies at Indiana Technical College in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He met his wife of 48 years, Idella, while playing a game of "hearts" in Mansfield, Ohio at the local YMCA. In 1959 he achieved degrees in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Mathematics and was awarded a Master's Degree from The University of Akron in 1966.
He founded Syed M. Nehal and Associates, a consulting engineering firm specializing in Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning in 1971. He was a past President of the Akron District Society of Professional Engineers, and a member of ASME and other professional organizations. He retired in 1996.
He is remembered especially for his gardening, cooking, and household projects. He loved classical poetry and was well known for his drawings and paintings.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Syed Abu Zafar and Safia Zafar Bano; brothers, Jamal and Kamal; and by sisters, Razia, Zakia, and Aisia. He is survived by his wife, Idella; daughter, Yasmin; sons, Jeffrey Diana and Jason Elinor; daughter, Susan; and grandchildren Hope, Katie, Isabelle, Rebecca, Sara, Hannah, Emily, Jenny, and Jeffery; as well as by his brother, Jalal of Minnesota and sisters, Nasima and Nuzhat, both of India. He is fondly and dearly missed by his beloved pet Chihuahuas, "Honey" and "Bear".
Services will be held 11 a.m. FRIDAY at Bethel Lutheran Church, 3852 Everett Rd. Richfield, with Rev. Byron Arledge officiating. Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N.
