Sylvia V. Phillips (age 105) passed away November 10, 2017.
She was born April 4, 1912 to the late Arthur and Ellen Ellis on the Isles of Scilly, England. She moved to the United States at age 8 and was a long-time Copley resident.
Preceded in death by her husband, Fred A. Phillips; and her brothers, Arthur T. Ellis and Roderick Ellis; Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Kay (Ron) Hine; granddaughter, Sylvia (Marc) Trundle; nephews, James (Pat) Ellis and Arthur (Sidartha) Ellis; and nieces, Joan Pierson, Ruth Morris, and Vicki (Bob) Faulkner.
Sylvia was the oldest member of both the Akron Police Auxiliary #1 and the Bath Grange. She was a founding member of Ghent Christian Church and was one of the first female Summit County school bus drivers working for the Revere Local School District from 1960-1972. She volunteered for Mobile Meals when the organization began operation in 1971. Sylvia also enjoyed fundraising events with her daughter and granddaughter at OPEN M. She attended Copley Methodist Church.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the care and compassion shown to Sylvia by the staff at Brookdale Montrose during her residency the past four years.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Rev. Don Upson officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to OPEN M or the Copley Fire and Police Department Associations.
