Thelma L. Smith

Thelma L. Smith, age 93, of Portage Lakes, Ohio, passed peacefully at Barberton Citizens Hospital on Monday, February 20, 2012.
She joins her beloved husband of 65 years, Charles "Smitty" Smith that passed in 2002.
Thelma is survived by daughter, Sondra (Bill) Guthrie of Portage Lakes; son, Charles J. Smith of Fairlawn; grandchildren, Rebecca (Rob) Arbogast, David (Susan) Lukacik, Michele (Reed) Kneal; and great-grand-children, Robert Arbogast, Denny Kneal, Casey Kneal, Amanda Kirby, Sarah Arbogast, Joey Kneal, Billy Kneal, and Abigail Lukacik. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jacqueline (Joe) Lukacik of Brimfield.
Thelma was born on March 9, 1918 in Bucyrus, Ohio to LeRoy and Florence Strieb Merkle. Thelma and her family lived in Akron, Ohio and Waukegan, Illinios. In retirement, she lived in Holiday, Fla. until relocating back to the Akron area. Throughout her life, Thelma was a dedicated wife, mother, and pet lover. She was an avid enthusiast of cards, mahjong and bingo.
She was loved and will be deeply missed.
Friends may call at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., THURSDAY from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Private entombment at Lakewood Cemetery. Contributions in her name may be made to the Coventry Senior Citizens Center, 336 E. Willowview Dr., Akron, OH 44319.
