Theodore Anthony Pavlantos, 89, died February 26, 2011.
Born September 14, 1921, Ted grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he co-managed his family's restaurant with his uncle. The Liberty Cafe as it was named was the largest restaurant in Albuquerque. He served in the New Mexico National Guard prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard three different ships in the Asiatic-Pacific area and in the Liberation of the Philippine Islands during World War II. He was awarded eight stars. Ted was a member of the National Restaurant Association for over 50 years. He owned and operated with his wife, Mary and son Mike, Mary and Ted's Family Restaurant. The restaurant was an icon in this area's eateries for over 55 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Bessie; step-father, Steve Anthony; brother, George Pavlantos; and wife of 55 years, Mary Pavlantos. He is survived by sister, Fannie Sparks; children, Kathy Adam, Tony Brenda, and Mike Stephanie; grandchildren, James and T.J. Jessica Chongris, Victoria and Teddy Pavlantos, and Matthew, Alexandria and Michael Pavlantos; great-grandchild, Anna Chongris.
Services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S. Union St., Akron, 44304 with Rev. Fr. Jerry F. Hall officiating. Burial at Crown Hill Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Navy and the American Legion Post 281. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the church where a Trisagion service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. If desired, memorials may be made to the Philoptochos Society.
