Thomas C. Johnson (T.C.), 93, of Akron passed away on September 15, 2016 at his home at Brookdale in Fairlawn. He was born in Pittsburgh on September 27, 1922. T.C. grew up in Pittsburgh where he became a huge Steelers Fan.
T.C. was a four year veteran of WWII, a First Lieutenant in the First Cavalry Division at the time of his discharge in Japan in 1946.
He began his tire career with Pennsylvania Tire in 1946. He then went to work for Mohawk Tire Co. where he served as vice president for 12 years until leaving to start Tyres International.
T.C. was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mary. They met in 5th grade and spent their lives together. They married in Hattiesburg, MS in 1944. They settled in Akron in 1956 and lived the rest of their 65 years together there.
He was a member of Bath Church, Grand Lodge of Kentucky F & AM, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Tadmor Temple.
T.C. was preceded in death by his wife Mary; son Thomas C. Johnson Jr.; and grandson David Bezbatchenko. He is survived by his daughters, Sue (Rick) Steiger and Barb (Martin) Bezbatchenko; grandchildren, Lindsay (Todd) Danforth, Brett and Jeff Steiger, and Michael (Lisa) and Nicholas (Jamie) Bezbatchenko; and great-grandchildren Grant and Hollie Danforth, Madison, Jackson Quinn and Milena Bezbatchenko; also, special niece Carole Lowe and many dear friends.
T.C.'s family wants to express their gratitude for the wonderful care he received at Brookdale (Gina and Carolyn), Visiting Angels (Connie) and Hospice Care of Brookdale (Nancy).
