Thomas H. Strayer, 81, passed away April 2, 2010 at his winter home in Port St. Lucie, Florida with his wife at his side.
Tom was born in Akron, Ohio, May 14, 1928. He graduated from North High School and entered the Air Force, Paratrooper Division. After the service he graduated cum laude from Kent State University in 2-½ years. He was employed at Ohio Bell and took early retirement when he was division manager. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Port St. Lucie and attended High Street Christian Church. He was a member of Fairlawn A.A.R.P. and the American Legion. He was a very generous person helping others financially and donating to numerous charities every month.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Delores, his daughter, Diane Strayer and step-grandchild, Amy Saalfield, he was deeply loved and will be sadly missed by his wife of 24 years, Ruth; stepsons, Donald O. Phillips Elizabeth of Ft. Collins, Colo., David E. Phillips Pamela of Medina; brother, James Strayer Nancy of Gainesville, Ga.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 1 p.m. SATURDAY, April 10th at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Rev. Charles Mills officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. FRIDAY.
