Thomas J. Weigand

Thomas Weigand, 81, passed away on January 4, 2018. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Gail, parents Robert and Katherine (Bartel) Weigand, and brother, Michael Weigand. He is survived by children, Lisa Wagner, Thomas Weigand, Bridget Baxter (Todd) and Amy Ritchie (Shannan); grandchildren, Haley, Tessa, Samuel, Olivia, Grace, Celia, Eva, Neal, and Brady; brothers, Robert (Joyce dec), Joseph (Pauline), and Leo; sisters, Katherine (Bob), Rose Mary and Carol.

Thomas was born August 24, 1936 in Barberton. He graduated from Barberton High School where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Gail Gordon. They were married until her death in 1990.

Thomas attended the University of Notre Dame, graduated with a BA in business and MBA from the University of Akron. He worked his entire career for Babcock and Wilcox.

Thomas was a life-long, active member of St. Augustine Church in Barberton, where he attended grade school and was an altar server as a boy, a lector as an adult and office volunteer at the parish office and preschool as a retiree. Thomas was instrumental in the establishment and continual success of St. Augustine Preschool, particularly through his expertise in grant writing.

Thomas loved all sports. He earned high school letters in football, basketball, and track & field. He continued to follow sports during his lifetime. He especially enjoyed track & field, was fiercely loyal to Notre Dame athletics, and celebrated a Cavalier National Championship.

Above all, he loved his family and was most content when surrounded by them. He will be dearly missed.
