Viola M Skidmore

Viola Skidmore, 85 of Akron, Ohio passed away peacefully on Friday evening with her three sons by her side.
Vi was a lifetime resident of Akron and graduated from Garfield High School in 1946. She joyfully served in the East Side and Bath congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses. She found great joy in studying and glorifying the word of Jehovah and learning about all of God's wonderful creations reflected in her love of animals. Vi helped care for the sick and elderly in her congregation and neighborhood, while herself a cancer survivor of over 30 years.
Vi worked for the Akron Public Schools then as a legal secretary in the patent and trademark departments of both Goodyear and Goodrich Tire & Rubber Companies until retiring from Goodyear in 1987.
Like her father, Vi was a gifted gardener. She was also a skilled seamstress and always dressed sharply, often in items she made herself. She frequently did the same for family and friends as well.
While still able, Vi loved to travel throughout the US and Europe and made fast friends of traveling companions and those she met on her journeys. She was a knowledgeable collector of antiques and fine jewelry, while also an avid reader and lover of poetry.
She was born February 24, 1928 of Harry and Della (Lewis) Schnebelen who, along with sister, Harryette Dicintio, preceded her in death. Viola is survived by her 3 loving sons, Brian (Ellie Heijnen), Rick (Nancy Tassiello) and Tom (Kelly Ashe); 5 grandchildren, Eric, Sarah, Kyle, Lauren and Jack; and nephews, Vincent and Martin Dicintio.
Vi and her family wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Joseph Iemma, Chambrel and their respective staffs for the high quality care and attention they gave her over these last years.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Billow Fairlawn Chapel, 85 N. Miller Road. Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday at the East Side Kingdom Hall, 2180 Martin Road, Mogadore, Ohio 44260.
