Virginia W. Gore, 99, passed away at Rockynol Retirement Community December 14, 2009.
She was born January 23, 1910, in Springfield, Ma. to William and Martha Webber Cohn.
Virginia was a resident of Akron since 1924. She attended Akron U., majoring in art education 1929-30 and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She transferred to and graduated from Cleveland School of Art 1930-1933 and was employed at M. O'Neil Company as a fashion artist from 1933-35.
Virginia married Gilbert F. Gore in 1935 and they spent 43 years together until his death in 1978. She exhibited art at Akron Art Institute and was a member of Women's City Club and St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She participated in Children's Hospital Project Linus knitting blankets for newborns and was a life member of Women's Art League.
Virginia is survived by sons, William Gore Virginia of Akron, Jeffrey Gore Amy of Ann Arbor, Mich.; grandchildren, Scott Pam of Chicago, Kevin Gina of Los Angeles, Mark Marita of Akron, Erin of Cincinnati, Susan Stevens Carroll of Rochester, NH, Thomas of Ann Arbor, Mich., Jonathan of Lexington, Ky.; 11 great- grandchildren; and niece, Rebecca Thomas Robert of Chagrin Falls.
The family would like to thank the First-floor Ledges Staff and Senior Independence Hospice for all of their care and kindness.
Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Senior Independence Hospice or St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
