Virginia May Mellion, 97, of Akron, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2018 in Akron, OH. Virginia was born in Youngstown, OH to Paul and Niki Janaq on May 13, 1921.
She attended school in Youngstown and Akron graduating from Buchtel High School in 1938. She went on to earn a Jewel Degree and worked as a beauty consultant and bookkeeper at her father's company, K and J Beauty Supply. On May 10, 1945 Virginia married John T. Mellion at St. Sebastian Church in Akron, OH.
She was involved in numerous clubs and civic organizations, for which she received the Ray Jeter Award for outstanding service in the community including President of the Women's Auxiliary Board of the Akron Bar Association, President of the Women's Auxiliary Board of the Juvenile Court Center, President and trustee of the Women's Board of the United Way of Summit County, Summa Women's Board, Stan Hywet Guild and 50 year member of Akron Women's City Club serving as President and manager of the boutique for 13 years.
She was also a member of Trinity United Church of Christ on N. Main St. in Akron where she created lifelong friendships. She served as Deacon and Elder, was a member and President of the Women's Guild and taught many Sunday School classes.
Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, John; sisters, Gloria Folt and Georgette Falb; brother-in-law, Louis (Helen) Mellion. Virginia is survived by her son, Paul (Susan); daughters, Patricia (Jack) McDermott, Christine and Mary; grandchildren, Heather and Marc (Maja); and one beloved great grandchild, Mason.

Funeral services will be held WEDNESDAY, June 20, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with the Rev. David Brown and Rev. Alvin Boehlke officiating. Visiting hours will be TUESDAY, June 19 from 4-7 P.M. at the funeral home. Private inurnment will take place at Rose Hill Burial Park.
