Wallace D. Techau

Wallace D. Techau 93, passed on to his eternal rest on April 14, 2022.

Wally was born November 20, 1928 in Glenwood, Iowa. His father was a farmer, and Wally spent his youth helping out on the farm. Upon graduating from high school, he joined the Army and served two years in Korea between the wars. After leaving the Army, he attended The University of Iowa, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1952. He then moved to Akron, Ohio, where he worked as a chemical compounder for more than 40 years, most of which were spent with the B.F. Goodrich Company. In 1953, he wedded Dorothy Sandmann, to whom he was married for 57 years. The marriage resulted in five children. He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, a member of the Iowa Club, a devoted choir singer, and loved photography, documenting many family gatherings and vacations. Wally was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend. He was loved by those who knew him and will be missed by all.

Preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (nee Sandmann), his daughter, Jeanne Louise, son, James Wallace, and brother, Herbert Techau; he is survived by son, Paul (Mary) of Maryland, daughters, Kathi Michaels of Akron, Anne (Kathleen) Techau of Ohio; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Ernest Techau, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 19 at Fairlawn Lutheran Church, 3415 W. Market Street, Akron, with Rev. Peter Mills of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Entombment at Rose Hill Burial Park. The service will be live streamed through the Billow Funeral Homes Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/BillowFuneralHomes/ .

Friends may call Monday, April 18 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron. If desired, memorials may be made to the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod Joint Seminary Fund, the Akron Symphony Orchestra, or Concordia at Sumner.
