Walter A. Long
Walter A. Long, 83, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2008.
Born and raised in Akron, he graduated from Central High School and attended The University of Akron.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Christopher and Margaret Long. He is survived by wife, Heraldine; brother, Christopher of Alabama; sister, Margery Weisberg of California; son, Gregory Brenda; daughter, Dorothy; granddaughter, Jennifer Long; grandsons, Brian Desire, and Clifford Cottrill; and great-grandson, Hunter Cottrill.
In World War II he served in the Army Air Force as an airplane mechanic/gunner in the 410 Bombardment Group. That group flew both night and day sessions, and had one of the best bombing records. On his return, he was employed by the Ohio Edison company in Akron for over 45 years as Field Distribution Engineer.
His many hobbies included bowling, ceramics, stamp collecting, golfing, woodworking, and hand-set letterpress printing. He was also an avid amateur photographer, volunteering his talents at both Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens and Hale Farm and Village.
A memorial service will be held at The Bath Church U.C.C., 3980 West Bath Road, Bath, Ohio 44333 on Friday, August 8 at 6:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at the Church from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday. Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to The Bath Church or Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, 714 North Portage Path, Akron, Ohio 44303.
