Warren Dale Koblenzer Jr., age 70, affectionally known as “BigCat” and “Pop” passed away on April 25, 2024 surrounded by his loving family after a short and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Norton, Ohio to parents Warren Dale Koblenzer, Sr. and Theresa Mae Koblenzer (nee O’Brien). He graduated from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio with a degree in Finance, and joined the “Thundering Herd” as a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch in 1976. He dedicated his 47- year career at Merrill Lynch to helping those who entrusted him to achieve their financial goals. He built relationships where clients became lifelong friends.
Dale exuberated joy in all that he did, and he brought out the best in others. He was a true gentleman and conducted himself with grace and distinction. His infectious spirit, love for life, and devotion to his family was admired by all.
Dale lived life to the fullest, and could be found racing Porsches, downhill skiing, golfing, fishing and laughing with friends. He was a trusted handyman for his family and never missed an opportunity to be first one on the dance floor. Dale enjoyed spending time with his family in Seagrove Beach, FL and most especially loved taking long walks on the beach while affectionately holding the hand of his wife, Peggy. Together, Dale and Peggy enjoyed travelling all over the United States, Canada, and Ireland to golf.
He devoted his life to giving back to the community and generously gave of his time, talent and treasure to many notable area organizations. He served on numerous boards, including Akron Children’s Hospital for 25 years and the Akron Community Foundation for 9 years, where he served on the Finance Committee. He was instrumental in the renovation of the Akron Civic Theatre in the 1990s. He also was a dedicated member of Bluecoats, Inc. and also served as President.
He was a lifelong member at Portage Country Club, and enjoyed spending time there with his family and friends. Dale also served on the Portage board and various committees, where he worked tirelessly to enhance the Club. Notably, he served as President and helped guide the Club forward after recovering from the fire of 1999.
Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Peggy Koblenzer (nee Ethridge); daughters, Katie Orendorf (Harrison), Ann Koblenzer (Bill Murphy), and Laura Lafferty (Ian); six adoring grandchildren, Connor Dale, Grant, Avery Dale, Owen, Madison Dale, and Ryan; his three sisters, Barb VanDeman (Lee), Sue Carney (John), and Jan Koblenzer. He was a favored uncle, father figure and mentor to many. Dale left a lasting impact on everyone’s lives he touched. May we all continue his legacy.

Market St. Akron, OH 44313. A reception in honor of Dale’s Life will be held at Portage Country Club immediately following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dale’s name may be made to Akron Children’s Hospital , the Akron Community Foundation , or to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church .
