Wayne Allen Gleim (W8JCU) passed away January 15, 2014 after a long illness.
He was born in Akron, Ohio on December 22, 1951. He attended the Anthony Wayne School for the Blind in Cleveland and graduated from the Ohio State School for the Blind in Columbus, Ohio, as well as Columbus Whetsone High School. He studied Electrical Engineering for two years at Ohio State University. He then moved to Pittsburgh to study computers and became a systems analyst working for Clarkins, Goodwill Industries, the University of South Florida in Tampa, and finally, retiring as an analyst for University Hospital at Ohio State University. Before his computer career, he was a professional musician who traveled the country playing in lounges for major motel chains. He was an avid Ham Radio Operator from the age of ten and was active in amateur radio in the Columbus area.
Preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth B. and father, Clyde E. Gleim; he is survived by his brother, Ed and sister, Diane Gleim; aunt and uncle, Janet and Eugene Boca; cousins, Donna and Robert Rowe, Jim Groh and Becky Grimm.
