Wayne Paul Staats, 67, passed away unexpectedly at home July 31, 2012 in Akron, Ohio.
His passion in life was photographing wildlife and nature, family and friends. The day before his passing he spent the afternoon at the Columbus Zoo in Ohio. His hobbies included amateur radio in which he was a HAM radio operator and member of clubs including the Military Amateur Radio Service, traveling and caring for animals.
As a young man, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Defense Command serving as Troop Information Specialist and photographer for Headquarters, 3rd (Hercules Missile) Battalion, 65th Artillery, in Cleveland, Ohio.
Preceded in death by son, Michael Andrew Staats; father, Weinyard Staats; and sister-in-law, Sue Ellen Staats; left to celebrate his life and mourn his death are his high school sweetheart and wife of 46 years, Carolyn J. Staats; children, Michelle (Michael) Staab, William (Danielle) Staats and Sandra Staats; mother, Betty Staats; sisters, Nancy (Frank) Royer, Della (Larry) Rowland; brother and best friend, John Staats; six grandchildren; and many other family and friends.
There will be no calling hours or service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of Greater Akron, 7966 Darrow Rd., Twinsburg, Ohio 44087.
