William E Bacon

William E. "Bill" Bacon, 89, passed away peacefully April 19, 2009.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, he lived most of his life in North Canton and Akron. He received a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from Ohio University in 1943 where he was a member of Sigma Pi and Phi Beta Kappa. From 1943-1945 he served in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant J. G. on the oil tanker U.S.S. Winooski. Bill retired from Connecticut General Life Insurance Company in 2002, which later became CIGNA, after 50+ years of service. He was the President of Men's Committee at Westminster Presbyterian Church, the President of Men's Garden Club, a member of Rotary Club and Rockynol Retirement Community Board. Bill enjoyed gardening, traveling and photography.

Preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Cathryn M. Bacon; son, Robert H. Bacon; brother, Henry M. Bacon; survived by son, David W. Carita Gorgas; daughter, Barbara B. Wilson H. Taylor; grandson, Christopher A. Kathleen Gaumer; granddaughter, Sarah H. Merrel W. Neal; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Bacon Pew; daughter-in-law, Joann H. Bacon.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude for many years of patient and loving care by Rockynol's staff in the Ledges.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday at the Carrell Center at Rockynol, 1150 W. Market St., Akron 44313 with Rev. Derek Starr Redwine officiating. Private burial at Forest Hill Cemetery in Canton. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Rockynol Life Care Endowment Fund, 1150 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44313.
