William H. Balk
NORTHAMPTON -- William H. Balk, 87, passed away December 7, 2008.
Born September 28, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio, he graduated from Collinwood High School in Cleveland. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of Brick Layers Union Local 7 in Akron and worked at Warner and Swasey in Cleveland and Zane Gillard Construction in Akron. He was a dedicated member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Cuyahoga Falls.
Preceded in death by parents, William H. and Emma Nehls Balk; three brothers; one sister; wife, Gertrude M.; and daughter, Barbara M.; he is survived by his wife, Mary H. Rockwood Balk of Cuyahoga Falls; daughters, Janene C. James Pierce of Peninsula, Deanna E. Dolan of Arlington, Texas; granddaughter, Christine C. Pierce; grandson, Jacob R. Dolan; stepsons, William MaryAnn Rockwood of Silver Lake, Paul Jeanne Rockwood of Cincinnati, Mark Mary Lynn Rockwood of Cuyahoga Falls; John Joanne Rockwood of Westerville; stepdaughter, Suzanna Gary Geul of Cuyahoga Falls; stepgrandchildren, Amanda Tassler, Amber Fritz, Bethany Van Meter, James, Jane, Jeffrey, Jack, Jennifer, Joshua, Kevin, Luke, Mark, Meredith and Mitchell Rockwood; and five great-grandchildren.
Service will be held 11 a.m. THURSDAY at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, with Pastor Robert Linsz officiating. Interment at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
