William P. Bray, Jr., 92, died Feb. 28, 2010.
Born Oct. 29, 1917, he was a lifelong resident of Akron where he graduated from East High School and the University of Akron. During his senior year at the University he served as Student Administrator of the National Youth Administration office. He was employed 41 years at Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. where he began as a secretary and retired as vice-president, purchasing. He was a former president of the Akron Purchasing Agents Association and vice-president of the National Association of Purchasing Management. He was a graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program. He enjoyed traveling and with his wife Martha had toured the fifty states and many foreign countries.
Preceded in death by wife Martha to whom he was married for 65 happy years; parents, William P. Bray and Hazel Shaw Bray; and brother, John; he is survived by sons, Eric Betsy and Edward fiancé, Elaine Koehler; grandson, Michael Kelly; granddaughter, Diane Gerspacher; sisters-in-law, Barbara Bray and Roberta Burley; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent Catholic Church, 164 W. Market St., with Fr. Joseph H. Kraker officiating. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
