William Gore

William B. Gore, Esq.

William B. Gore, 77, died peacefully Feb 1, 2016 at Hospice of VNS surrounded by his dedicated wife and loving family and friends.

Bill, a local Akronite graduated from Buchtel High School. He then attended Ohio University, was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, played golf for the University Bobcats and qualified for the US Amateur. Bill went on to Ohio State Law School. He became a lawyer and started his career as an FBI agent. Then, he went on to become a prosecutor in Akron and thereafter one of the most successful labor lawyers supporting the Labor Movement in the United States.

Bill was a very accomplished golfer and loved to promote the game of golf in Akron. He was a dedicated volunteer for the Bridgestone Invitational and Northern Ohio Golf Charities for 46 years and additionally served as a trustee. He was Tournament Chairman in 1982 for the World Series of Golf and loved being part of the Announcer Committee for the tournament since 2003. Bill was President of the Board of Fairlawn Country Club in 1984 and served on the board of FCC for several years. He also volunteered as Head Coach for Our Lady of the Elms Golf team and had a passion for coaching. Bill supported all his children in other sports and is known as one of the longest standing Little League coaches in Bath.

Bill is preceded in death by mother, Virginia (Cohn) Gore, father, Gilbert Gore. He sadly leaves behind, his loving dedicated wife and biggest advocate, Virginia Gore; sons, Scott (Pam), Kevin (Gina), Mark (Marita); daughter, Erin (Ty); and his grandchildren he loved so much, Sophie, Bailey, Isabella, Harris, Malia, Ty, Anthony and Andrew; brother, Jeff (Amy); and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Akron General Hospital, especially Dr. Ari Wachsman and Dr. Ghassan Khayyat. We would also like to thank the tremendous staff of Edwin Shaw Rehabilitation Center and Director Dr. Anthony Hayek for their help. We express sincere gratitude to the caregivers at The Gables of Hudson and all of the family and friends who have remained positive and supportive during the past two years. A special thank you to Darren and Stephanie.

Bill loved his family, the Buckeyes, the Cleveland Indians, Broadway musicals, traveling with Ginnie on their many excursions and playing golf with the Blue Tee golfers at Fairlawn Country Club. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Service will be held 1:30 p.m. FRIDAY at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with The Rev. Mark J. Pruitt officiating. Private entombment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call THURSDAY from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to The First Tee Akron, 2000 S.
