William A Green

William A. Green, 91, passed away March 19, 2010.

Born in Irvona, Pa., he lived most of his life in Akron and was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Akron, Phi Delta Theta and A.S.M.E. Mr. Green retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in 1982 with 42 years of service and then worked for H & R Block Premium Tax Services, he was an enrolled agent with the IRS.

Having participated in sports as a young man, he continued his interest in athletics officiating at high school football games while working in the Goodyear's Gadsden Plant during the late 1950's.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pearl Green and father, William Allen Green; brothers, Walter, Warden and Chester Green and sisters, Olive Green and Martha Ragland; mother-in-law, Jane Marie Brown. Respected by all whose lives he touched, he will be sorely missed by his wife of 68 years, Jane; daughter, Elizabeth J. Green of Fairlawn; sister, Phyllis Franz Brucks of Dunwoody, Ga.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Eunice and Jerry Stein; numerous nieces and nephews; and Himalayan cat, Buffy Marie Winston.

Services will be held 1 p.m. WEDNESDAY at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Rev. Douglas G. Meek officiating. Entombment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call 2 hours prior to the service WEDNESDAY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First U.M.C. of Akron, 263 E. Mill St., Akron 44308 or to the Ronald McDonald House, Building Fund, c/o Children's Hospital, One Perkins Square, Akron 44308.
