William G Hoover
William G Hoover, 91, of Toledo, Ohio, formerly of Copley, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 23rd. Bill was born in Los Angeles, California, but traveled the world ultimately raising his family in Copley for 42 years.
Bill was born on May 3, 1924 to parents, Ralph and Estelle Hoover. Bill had one older brother, Ralph, Jr., who preceded him in death. Ralph Jr. was survived by his only son, Richard and his wife Debbie.
Bill graduated from Beverly Hills High and attended UCLA, but his college was interrupted when he decided to join the Air Force. He flew the B29 aircraft based in Saipan, flying more than 40 combat sorties during World War II. He returned to the Air Force for the Korean War and was then honorably discharged.
Bill received his undergraduate degree from Mexico City College, and was one of the first graduating classes from the Thunderbird Graduate School of International Management in Glendale, AZ. He worked for 41 years at Goodyear in the aviation division and lived in Europe with his family for 7 years. Bill made many business friends while traveling in South America, the Far East and Europe.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Margie (Steele) Hoover and his beloved children, Phyllis and Mike Hardgrove, Beth and Kevin Sharkey, Nancy and Leroy Feltz and Bill and Gail Hoover. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Nicole and Collin Hardgrove, Lauren and Jenifer Sharkey, Liz and Laura Feltz and Kyle and Natalie Hoover. He also leaves behind loving nieces and nephews and many close and wonderful friends.
Bill will be remembered for his World War II service, his love of life and his commitment to family and friends.
Calling hours will be held at 4 - 6 pm on Saturday, January 30 at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Road, Akron, Ohio 44333. A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 31 at the funeral home where the family will receive family and friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Copley Fire & Rescue Association, 1540 S. Cleveland-Massillon Road, Copley, OH 44321, or the charity of choice. (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)
