William F. Mcalonan

William F. McAlonan, 87, of Akron, passed away on November 28, 2012.

Born in Akron on February 16, 1925, Bill was a lifelong area resident. Bill retired from Firestone Tire and Rubber Company with 35 years of service and was a Corporate Manager of International Engineering responsible for engineering construction and operations at 28 tire plants in 24 countries. Bill graduated from Tri-State University, Angola, Ind., with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a registered Professional Engineer and member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Mr. McAlonan was a World War II veteran serving with the U.S. Army, Corps of Combat Engineers as a First Lieutenant. He was the recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Medal, Philippine Campaign Ribbon with Bronze Star and other awards.

Bill McAlonan was a faithful member of High Street Christian Church serving as Deacon, Trustee and Elder with many years of service to the church.

Preceded in death by his parents, May and John McAlonan, also Akron residents, Bill is survived by his sister, Dorothy Miller of Henderson, N.C.; daughter, Janet Parker and husband Tim of Williamsburg, Va.; and sons, David McAlonan and wife Wendelin of Antioch, Ill., and Kevin McAlonan of Phoenix, Ariz. Bill has five grandchildren, Elisa Dannemiller, Evan Dannemiller, Ruth Keller and husband Zachery, Scott McAlonan and Janetta McAlonan.

Service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron. Interment will follow the service at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
