William E. "Bill" Rust
Bill Rust of Silver Lake, passed away on March 5, 2015, at the age of 92. He was born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, to Thomas and Stella Rust on July 8, 1922, and was a lifelong resident of the Akron area having lived in Silver Lake for the past 50 years.
He was a graduate of Akron's North High School and the University of Akron and was a U.S. Army veteran serving honorably during World War II in India and Burma. Returning home, he married his beloved wife Katherine (nee Appleton) in 1945. They were married 61 years until she passed away on their 61st wedding anniversary in 2006. He later said he'd never forget that date again!
Bill retired from B.F. Goodrich after 43 years of service as an industrial engineer in the time study department. While he was a faithful, dedicated employee at Goodrich, his real passion was fishing and the great outdoors. As a young boy, he spent many hours fishing in local lakes and ponds and carried that love of fishing throughout his life. His fishing ability was legendary as he could always catch the fish no matter what. He also loved working with area kids who participated in local fishing derbies held during the year. He was a member of the Summit Sportsman's Association, former member of the Purple Heart Hunting and Fishing Club for many years, and a long-time member of the Conservation Club of Summit County. He also served as an advisor to the Silver Lake Estates Board of Trustees for 16 years coordinating the stocking of Silver Lake through fish hatcheries here in Ohio. Fishing in Silver Lake was one of his favorite things in life and gave him much enjoyment for many, many years.
Bill was a wonderful, caring father, dear husband, and a good friend to all. He had an excellent sense of humor and an infectious laugh that was contagious if you happened to hear him from another room chuckling about something on TV. He always had a soft heart for his pets over the years and spoiled each and every one of them!
In addition to his parents and his wife, Katherine, he was preceded in death by his son, Leonard of Cuyahoga Falls, and his brother, Robert Rust of Fayetteville, Georgia. He is survived by his loving daughter, Nancy Davies, of the same address, dear cousin, Glen Graham (Dorothy) of Canal Fulton, and a host of family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all.
A very special, heartfelt thanks to Phyllis Glass and Patty Kosir, longtime friends, who have provided tremendous support over the years to Bill and his daughter, Nancy.
