William T Santschi

October 8, 1918 — March 25, 2009

William Tell Santschi, 90, passed away March 25, 2009.

He was born in Akron, Ohio on October 8, 1918. At age 17, he learned the car upholstery trade and operated his own business, Bill Santschi Upholstering, in Cuyahoga Falls until the age of 82. He was often referred to as the "Mayor of Front Street".

He was a World War II Army Veteran. Bill was a former Akron City Handball Champ and played handball at the YMCA for over 60 years. He was always a servant of God and was an usher, deacon and elder for almost 60 years at First Grace United Church of Christ. He currently was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls. Until 2001, he visited the sick and shut-ins every Saturday for many years. Bill was a very generous man, always giving to those in need. He was an avid gardener, his beautiful tulips, roses, impatiens and petunias were loved by all.

He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him. We will miss his zest for life and having fun and his great sense of humor. Mostly, we will miss the love that radiated from him to all whose lives he touched. If ever an angel walked the earth, it was he.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Christian and Augusta Santschi and siblings Oscar, John, Reverend Fred and Martha Santschi. He leaves his loving wife of 59 years, Emogene; daughters, Linda and Carol Santschi; sister-in-law, Kay Santschi; grandchildren, Melissa Greg Morgan, Megan Tom LoParo, Mitch Firis; great-grandchildren, Danny, Dominic and Emilee LoParo, Ian and Jacob Morgan. "We love you Papa Bill!" He also leaves his beloved dog, Rosie, who brought him great joy. She is sitting in his chair waiting for his return.

Services will be held on Monday, at 9 a.m. at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd, Akron with Rev. Marvin Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Peace Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Donations can be made in William's name to First United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls, 245 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44221, Bell Choir of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, 116 E.
