William Andriot Schenk passed away peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Tuesday, March 20th, 2012.
Born in Akron, on January 9, 1926, he was a graduate of Cuyahoga Falls H.S. and served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 as an Aviation Electrician and Automatic Pilot Technician 1st Class. He graduated Kent State University achieving a Bachelor's of Science in 1949, and a Master's of Education in 1951. Upon graduation he worked at Goodyear Tire and subsequently began a prosperous 30-year career with the YMCA of America.
He was a member of Montrose Zion United Methodist Church and active at Ghent Christian Church and many civic institutions such as Boy Scouts of America, VFW, Bath-Richfield Kiwanis, and Kent State Museum.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Charles and Gracie Hertel-Schenk; sisters, Jean Schenk, Martha Schenk; and his loving wife, Shirley Louise Stephans-Schenk. He is survived by his children, Katrina Grace (John) McLaughlin, Dr. William (Linda) Schenk, Brett (Lynne) Schenk, and Blake (Diana) Schenk; grandchildren, Scott and David McLaughlin, Lindsey, Ali and Collin Schenk, Blake and Joshua Schenk; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends; and Dr. Walt Chisholm, a very dear, close friend.
Calling hours are from 10 to 11 a.m., with the memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24th, at Montrose Zion United Methodist Church; refreshments following the service. Private inurnment at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Montrose Zion United Methodist Church, 565 N. Cleveland-Massillon Road, Akron 44333.
