William Paul Schwager passed away early Tuesday morning, March 5th. Born August 17, 1921 to Anna and Alvin Schwager, Mr. Schwager graduated from Garfield High School in 1940. He attended Whitman College and University of Washington and earned Bachelor's degrees in Mathematics and Chemistry. In 1943, he accepted a position at Tidewater Associated Oil Company in Long Beach, California. Two years later, Bill accepted a position at The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company and in 1960, moved his family to Akron, Ohio as Manager of Passenger Tire Development.
He will be remembered for his love and devotion to family, athleticism, his serious and productive manner and the game of golf.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Sara Baker Schwager; his daughters, Anna (James) and Catherine (Darryl); his son, Paul (Janet); eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are Tuesday, March 12th at 10 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at The Bath United Church of Christ, 3980 W. Bath Rd., Akron OH 44333. A private burial will take place early Tuesday morning. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Bath Church.
