William Raymond Ray Wood
William Raymond Ray Wood, born in Shelton Connecticut on February 28, 1921 and resident of the Akron Community for 49 years, passed away at his home on Thursday, August 21, 2008.
He is survived by Jean Curtis Wood of Akron, his wife of 60 years; a daughter, Ann John Zeis of Tampa, Florida; a son, Grant Darla Wood of Akron; grandchildren, Lisa Kaufman, Derek Jessica Wood, Dane Amelia Hostler, Daniel Zeis, Dylan Hostler and Paul Zeis; great-grandchildren, Kody and Kaden Wood.
Mr. Wood was an Army Veteran of World War II. He served in the First Calvary, serving in the South Pacific, Philippines and Australia. He maintained membership in the DAV, Eagles, and the Manchester American Legion.
He built his career as lead chemist with Firestone Rubber after graduating from Bowling Green University in 1942.
In addition to his love and dedication to his family, Mr. Wood enjoyed children, music, camping and motorcycling. He is remembered by all as a quiet and compassionate and gentle man.
Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Billow Lakes Chapel, 472 W. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. Akron with Rev. Dr. Vicki Hillman-Breckner officiating.
